[Field Homework 1] Restriction

1. Wide-angle; The only scene allowed by the current situation is a view from the bedroom. Such view have been just a passive moment in the past daily life, but now the view seems quite different from the past days. The current situation has changed many people’s point of view from where they are at. This wide angle has contained the apartment where it is shelter for many people and office building beyond the apartment is an office for many people within the city. This photo reflects people’s daily life, but the restricted view within the spot, the room, conveys the quarantine life of many people.

You demonstrate a good understanding of the tasks and provide some thoughtful insights into the crisis situation through your photographs. The overall washed out and dull tones of the photographs convey a sense of melancholy – from the views out of your window to your bed and the dream catcher you see when you wake up, there is a sense of narrative sequence. Appreciate your attempts at the Bird’s Eye and Worm’s Eye views though the camera lens for the latter should be more tilted upwards to achieve the effect of looking up from below (i.e. opposite of the Bird’s Eye).
Perspective – this is not quite right as it is a frontal view. A better example of a perspective shot would be the ones in Seriality which show a single-point perspective with vanishing lines on the left and right. To turn your existing shot into a perspective one, consider opening the door to introduce perspective lines into the frame.
Chiaroscuro – good attempt to use black and white for this shot. The contrast can be increased to dramatize the lighting contrast.
Seriality – clever choice of subject matter.
