Field Trip 1: Wan Chai Wet Market

Wide-angle. Two roads in different directions are shown in this photo, covering a wide range of angle at this district.

Zoom. This photo shows a corner of the market by zooming into one of the small fruit stores.

Focus. The bird is focused, and to highlight it, the background is blurred and not in the same color as its.

Crop. The wall and column of the vegetable store cropped a piece of streetview in the market.

Bird’s eye/aerial. This photo imitates what a bird looking down could see when it is flying across buildings and streets.

Worm’s eye. This photo imitates the view of a worm under the chair, in which the chair and the handrail are as big as buildings.

First person view. This is what I see when I am passing a food store as one of many passers-by attracted by the food.

Skewed angle. A good way to show the bridge when I consider it as a protagonist, which is neither parallel nor perpendicular to the ground.

Perspective. The boxes consist of a strongly perspective photo, the man at the other side of the road being the focus of the photo.

View frame. The footbridge on the top of the photo, two buildings besides and the handrail at the bottom frame a small sqaure area on the street.

Seriality. This series of photos focuses on the ‘look left’ sign on the road. These photos record things that are passing by: people, cars, carts, etc. Everyone tends to ignore a sign on the road without so much meaning, and they don’t stop for it, neither for other things in this market. Components of this area seem simple when we watch it as a passer-by: people and shops, that’s it. But if we look at it from the view of a traffic sign on the road, we see the elders wearing slippers, hardworking-man with his cargo, old taxi, private cars with different people. And this area becomes more alive.

Chiaroscuro/contrast. Two different colors of light from two shops contrast with each other, and that is also the biggest differences between them.

You have some interesting thoughts in your photos but can be better brought forward by your photos. You can start thinking about a message as you capture the photo and why you are interesting in that subject matter. For example, the Seriality Shot, would placing the camera on the ground or high above parallel to the sign help exaggerate the things that passes over the sign. You have some great observations and you should start choosing one or two aspects to focus and further develop.
