Reading Response: Michel De Certeau AND Nezar AlSayyad

The two article address how “voyeur” and “flaneur” applied in movie. The first article uses the movie” Rear Window” in 1954 to explain. Watching people watching people’s life is the idea of being seen, and that’s the lens of a movie. We have discussion is class whether in nowadays for example reality TV shows match the idea of “ being  seen”? and how is the security of our life being affected. For the second article, we also discussed by “ Walking in the city”, we experienced stories by reading to people and seeing things. Thats the concept of different perspective and if you are in the top of a building, like world trade centre you have the “All seen power” , and that’s present a different experience.

I appreciate how you drew the relationship between the two essays by bringing up the idea of voyeur and flaneur and bringing in relevant points from the essays raised during the tutorial. However, the comparisons can also be made in the other parts of your response. For example, you mentioned the idea of ‘all seen power’ in de Certeau’s piece – can it be linked to AlSayyad’s discussion of power as well? Overall, the clarity of the writing can be improved.
