In lecture 5, the main idea of the article ” spatial stories ” is to discuss the relationship and the differences between “space and place” & “map and tour”.
Before reading the article, I thought that space and place are the same things, but Michel de Certeau who is the writer of the article has defined a new definition for space and place. He thinks that a place is a location without any meaning while space is a place where meaningful. Therefore, the definition of space is different to everyone, since the definition of meaningful places is different to everyone.
For the map and tour, the map only means a board or a website shows your location and things that surround you or far from you. While the tour means someone or the navigation guide you to a place, the tour will guide the user steps by steps toward distinction but not just showing the location of the distinction.

To strengthen your essay, I would invite you to see the notion of “space”, “place”, “maps”, “tours”, “frontiers”, etc. through a more critical lens. You could give your readers examples from your own experience or perspective about a place and space. Would you think this conception significant? Has it changed your perspective or the way you are seeing things after knowing this concept better? By thinking through this kind of questions, you would be able to develop a more solid position to reflect the concepts upon.
