Description:
The tram is the moving storyteller of the ever-changing city. Travelling through the static concrete jungle, passengers experience the dynamics of the city. The people and the spaces convey the narrative. In particular, the contagion once again triggered people’s questions towards the future of Hong Kong. They gathered and they cried. “Hong Kong independence, the only way to go.” Through panning, the camera was tilted to capture the BOC building, a forceful and monumental structure. Who would listen to their voices, in the void Central? What I know is that the shiny facade blinds the passengers.

Appreciate your efforts in keeping the videos thematically and visually consistent. The title WITNESS is clever in defining the viewing relationships: the city as the movie screened, passenger as audiences and the tram as the movie theater.
Love the last metaphorical piece. The panning camera movement and out of focus shot successfully convey the blurred out protesting voice replaced by the refocusing of economic development during this pandemic. The black and white tone and low resolution introduce a “dreadful atmosphere.” The fourth clip is also cleverly done with adequate technique conveying the oppressed environment we are in. However, the second and third clips, though visually stunning, do not stand strong in your collection. Consider how you would better introduce your characters of the movies and fit them into a continual narrative.
