Spaces have stories. The author started with examining the relationship and differences between spaces and places. Space is a practices place. It is produced by human activities taking place within it. Stories transform places into spaces or spaces into place. It found spaces. Where stories are disappearing, there is a loss of space. Just like human always treat places where daily activities occur as spaces while they categorise the others as places. I always curious in the untold “space” behind the scenes in stories and want to explore the unknown. Furthermore, the reading identifies the idea and connection of maps and tours. I am wondering whether maps or tours are more useful in daily life. In google map, it provides the 2D map and the function of navigation like a tour. People more likely to rely on the “tour” instead of the 2D map to navigate the places themselves.

A thoughtful synthesis of de Certeau’s discussion on the relationship between spaces and places. Appreciate that you point out the domination of a google map as a new form of corporate power that informs and determines behaviour i.e. “the tour”.
