Honestly speaking, I had quite a lot of trouble reading this article, not only because it is actually a philosophical work but also because it has way more advanced vocabulary than I can understand. I even could not help skipping a few paragraphs in the end. However, I have had a grasp of the idea of the distinction and connection between space and place, which are similar to but different from de Certeau’s ideas in his another article, Walking in the City. What’s more, after the tutorial this week, I have had a rough structure of maps and boundaries in mind, although I had no idea after the first skim. In particular, I find that the sentence “What the map cuts up, the story cuts across” is really amazing and would like to further relate it to the cases of other narratives, both in texts and in films.
