It depends on varies factors, the budget, the importance of the item, and if it is part of the performance etc. It is pretty hard to tell but you’d usually make a wise decision based on experience.
Miniature filming is only applied in certain film genre , like “HARRY POTTER” or “LORD OF THE RING”. Not necessary to apply in a realism film in this case.
