From Christina, TSOI Ying Ying (3035792676) : How to think about the design of costumes in a virtual world from zero-based? Like the magic world, since those costumes do not really appear in reality, how to know that the costumes that are designed actually meet the character?
I guess when designing costumes for a fabricated reality, most important thing is we HAVE to believe its existence and how the world is constructed in story telling. If the “world” is well researched and carefully established (by screen writer / production designer etc.), then there’s always a relevant background / history / aesthetic that we can base on, modify and reimagine.
Characters live in this imagined “world” while costumes are created in the same construct. For me, it’s not a question how the costumes meet the characters, rather it should be why these characters choosing their costumes in that particular world.
