Reading Response: Walter Benjamin

This artical mainly discuss the effect of reproducibility of art to artist and general public. Before the emergence of film, most art are created as a whole in a irreproducible process, which gave its aura. However, the film is an art defined by reproducibility, as it is made up of multiple piece of video filming an real environment. Moreover, the film is displayed toward masses in cinemas may be politicized as a tool of advocation as people tend to respond according to the plot of film and behavior of other audience. From my point of view, these worries toward film as a new form of art is unecessary. As our technology progress, film itself is not only a replicate of real world. The scene setting, custome and architectures are all orginially designed for the film for better visual effect. Each film has its unique creation process hence is not simply reproducible by some one with only a camera. Also, in recent days, people have the option to watch film at home, which reduce the chance of collective response to a certain plot. Therefore, every one could have their own filing and opinion toward the same film regardless of other’s response.
