Mianyang, a city many people probably never heard of. It is the second largest city in Sichuan province after Chengdu, a city famous for hotpot, mah-jong and panda. But you may know some of its labels. It is the only admitted “Science and Technology City” in China and also the birthplace of famous poet Li Bai. However, what is more well known about Mianyang is the 5.12 significant Wenchuan earthquake in 2008. As the center of the earthquake, Wenchuan is a county very close to Mianyang City. I was born here in Mianyang, and went to primary school and middle

Description of the theme and subject matter : Since the final assignment this time for us is to use a video essay to reflect the impact of the covid-19 on us, but the mainland city where I am has long been free from the shadow of the coronavirus, and I can’t use the time machine to go back to the end of last year to find the feeling of a city shrouded by the horror of the covid-19 at that time. [Video Essay] Maze City

MAZE CITY SITE: CAMPUS Mao Yue Yang Lesley 3035770549 Description The film is inspired by a word from my senior before I enter university. He introduced HKU to me by saying that ‘HKU is a 3D maze’. So I put my focus on HKU campus, making it the epitome of this city. The film’s theme is how to deal with the maze-like urban life in this maze-like terrain city. [Video Essay] Public City- Alleyways

When I visited alleyways around my home, I discovered that there were a lot of small items that people left behind such as takeaway food containers, drink cups, masks, and cigarette butts. These items reminded me of the news I read earlier about workers struggling to find places to have meals and ended up eating in the alleyways during the pandemic. Seeing the connection between the items found in the alleyways and the news, I started to wonder what makes people find alleyways suitable for eating and resting. Through fieldwork, I realized that it was the privacy provided by the

Before I did my site visit, I thought that the pace of Hong Kong was fast largely because of the population. However, after the site visit, I found out that the space, or say environment, also had a great impact on the pace of the city. Thus, by presenting the film from a steady rabbit’s point of view, I want to show the contrast and separation between the paces at different spaces. Research and making of

Under the COVID 19 pandemic, people are now under more control as regulations are imposed on the lives of Hong Kong citizens, such as needing to wear a mask when going out, needing to maintain social distance etc. The surveillance which surrounds the enforcement of these regulations are becoming more and more strict. This situation is present in Hong Kong everywhere, and the MTR passage is no exception, with signs made on the walls and announcements telling people to “fight the virus”.
