Video 1
This first video is a Static Shot of the interior of a Tesco Supermarket in Seri Tanjung, Penang. Business is bumbling as usual in this part of Asia, many people still walk around the city without wearing a surgical mask.
Video 2
This next video has Static Shots of the supermarket’s payment cashier from the perspective of a customer and a Wide shot of everyone who is in the waiting line. There are still many people buying toilet paper and other hygiene-related products as there is still stock in Malaysia.
Video 3
This third video documents the process of leaving the supermarket from the Point of View of the trolley, it starts from the escalator to the entrance of the parking lot. As you can see, the mall’s food court still has many people.
Video 4
This video incorporates a Panning Wide Shot with an Instant Zoom at the end, this was used to show the parking lot area of the mall and emphasize the lack of hygiene in places like these. Rubbish can be seen all over the floor and inside the trolleys even during the Coronavirus Pandemic.
Video 5
This video is Framed from the Point of View of a backseat passenger in a car. The car is leaving the parking lot where many cars can be seen to be parked there. Although the population density in Penang isn’t as high as Hong Kong, there is still a high chance of coming into contact with large crowds even during times like these.
Chosen Description: Video 4
As seen in the video and written in the description, there is rubbish everywhere in the parking lot, especially in the supermarket trolley return area. The hygiene of the place is not done well even in times like these. The main mode of transportation in Penang is by car, most homes, if not all, have one or two vehicles, this means that parking lots in populated places are always full. People are still walking around the mall without wearing surgical masks and touching everything. The panning technique is used to give a sense of the space so that the viewer has some level of context. The zoom was used to emphasize a specific area in the video, quick zooms can also create a sense of urgency.

Overall, a good attempt in identifying the supermarket as the space of investigation. The 5 videos form a clear series of a trip to Tesco, helped by filming in black and white throughout. Also appreciate that you are trying a different camera position and angle for each video. For video 4, the rubbish you highlighted is not clear in the video itself. Consider techniques such as focus/blur or zoom-in or crop to direct your viewer’s attention to it. The quick zoom is not obvious so the sense of urgency that you point out is not quite felt in the video. Consider introducing the quick zoom more than once so that the viewer can be cued in. Or to create a more sudden the zoom-in.
