[Field-Homework 2]Melancholy

1) The longing to return home is halted as they arrive at the escalator.

2)The constant movement of the walkers…The constant avoidance of pausing.

3)Melancholy, in everyone’s mind.
The video attempts to portray pessimism in people’s minds nowadays. Their fear of crowdedness and physical contact as they step foot onto the long arduous escalator, and amplifies as they reach to the top of the footbridge. Like the ocean waves, the herd of people flows in all directions. Their body tackling yours, their stoic masked faces facing towards you and their sharp eyes gleaming at you. Not only does the virus attack you physically, you are also mentally scarred. The video is done by using an overlay effect and slow motion through a still-camera angle.

4)Regardless of the social contagion, the city continues to run.

5)The fatigued, the face of everyone.(Crop)

Appreciate the focused dissections of an escalator and its surrounding spaces, as well as the mix of urban architecture and human flow. The composition for each of these scenes and the use of techniques are extremely well done. The tonality of this collection together with the composition of each scene successfully conveys your topic MELANCHOLY.
To have a much more compelling collection, consider curating the sequence of the videos and having a narrative that threads through them. Each video now is a strong stand-alone piece, however, they do not work as cohesively as a set.
Finally, could you identify for us the location of each of these videos?

Hi Ina, thanks for your comments. The location of the escalator is in quarry bay, next to the famous monster building.
