[Reading Response: Christine Boyer]

The application of advanced technology has become trendy nowadays. M. Christine reminds me of several humanistic and ethical issues during the booming development of cybercities. For example, does it a long-term achievable idea to construct such a virtual city? It’s widely agreed that a house is a machine for living in’(Le Corbusier), human beings use various artificial intelligence to functionalize our city into better services and comfortable places based on some basic principles. For example, traditional cities contain basic elements such as distance and time. However, Cyber cities turn those elements into an imaginary matrix of computer nets and electronic codes, storing imaginary information in physical components. New principles and definitions concerning time and materials are given in Cyberspace. One side is immaterial while the other remains material. According to Michael Heim, artistic and technological fascination are closely linked, the idea of all reality becoming patterns of information is subject to the law of information management. Thus, by no means can we ignore the physical existence of some significant materials and time.

It is unclear what ‘humanistic and ethical issues’ you are referring to. Perhaps you can refer to some real-life examples to illustrate your points. If you are quoting directly from the essay, use quotation marks and cite accordingly.
