Reading Response: Jennifer Yoos and Vincent James

This article mainly focus on the development of multilevel urbanist projects. From the text, I realize the importance of these kind of pedestrian system for different aspects. First of all, it can boost the economic growth of the city, because it brings convenience to the transportation system, less congestion will occur and more time will be saved. Secondly, people are able to reach different places in a safer and swifter way which means the living standards go up.  In addition, these multilevel urban structure can also be a typical form of arts in the city. For example, there are some escalators in Hong Kong, it just like a symbol of the city, its structures and style seems to tell the stories of the daily life in this city. However, this type of system should be maintained during a period of time in order to prevent the potential risks.

You summarised and reflected upon Yoos and James’ article well and you wrote following a neat logical structure. I would suggest elaborating more on the impact of skywalks on the city. For example, arguing the Mid-Level escalator has become one of the landmarks and icons of Hong Kong urbanism. How would you think the escalator influence the way people move around and about or the way people “interact” with ground level? Giving examples from your understanding and/or experience would be one of the ways to strengthen your arguments.
