[Reading Response] Jennifer Yoos and Vincent James

After reading this text, I have a brand new idea on the pedestrian system. Although pedestrian system like bridges can be seen everywhere on streets in our daily lives, it is indeed something more than I thought: it not only promotes flow of people, segregation and connection, but also shows different aspects of society like economy and social science.

In fact, pedestrian system are often shown in films as well, as a way to show different scenes. Take Hong Kong as an example, there are indeed different elevated walkway system in certain districts like Sheung Wan, Central, Wan Chai etc. These reflected the history of the development of Hong Kong in a way and I find it interesting to see pedestrian system in such new perspective.

  1. Putri Santoso says:

Yoos and James’ actually provided an alternate way of seeing elevated pedestrian connections for the qualities that you mentioned in your essay. Reflecting upon how these aspects influence the economy by giving examples, especially from your own perspective or your own experience, would be worthwhile. For example, how has the pedestrian network in Hong Kong (or in your hometown) shown a different aspect of society? In what way has it reflected the history of Hong Kong’s development as you claimed in the last paragraph?
