In the second reading, the author talks about the relationship between technology and art. I believe this is also a popular topic of conversation in the field of art, and my friend participated in a debate competition on this topic last year. In my opinion, the maturation of technology and its development can have both good and bad effects on art.
Some would argue that technology is a stain on art. For example, a work like the painting “Ophelia” should be treasured because its charm is not only limited to the beauty of the work itself, but also to the way it expresses the time period. Or the many works in the Forbidden City Museum, which not only contain the work of their authors and their understanding of the times and art, but also the efforts of many people who gave their lives to preserve art in times of war or cultural conflicts. Some people believe that these works of art need to be treasured, not imitated with the power of technology.
Others believe that it is technologies that have made art possible. First, the enhancement and development of technology have brought us more forms of art, such as the art of photography and the art of film. As mentioned in the article, because the speed of the eye capturing things around us is greater than the speed of drawing pictures by hand, so there is the development and use of photography; gradually such speed is getting faster and faster, catching up with the speed of speech, so that is gradually formed the film technology (I do not know if this is accurate). Secondly, technology, or the technology of reproduction, allows more of us to see works of art. In the European Middle Ages, only the nobles had the opportunity to hire painters and put some works in their own living rooms, and only their own family members had the opportunity to see them. And the development of technology allows more of us to appreciate the beauty of the art itself, even if we come from middle or low socioeconomic backgrounds, even if we don’t physically go to the local museum or gallery.
I’m not sure if technology has brought more good than bad or more bad than good to art. But from a factual point of view, it is the development of technology that has opened up more possibilities for the development and variety of art, even if there are some visible losses in the process.
