Description of the theme and subject matter :
Since the final assignment this time for us is to use a video essay to reflect the impact of the covid-19 on us, but the mainland city where I am has long been free from the shadow of the coronavirus, and I can’t use the time machine to go back to the end of last year to find the feeling of a city shrouded by the horror of the covid-19 at that time. So I can only start from the current situation to reflect the atmosphere of the city which is back on track. As the site I got is a mall, malls are generally the most crowded places in the city. I can imagine the situation of shopping malls during the covid-19. In order to minimize the possibility of the spread of the virus, people will try to avoid crowded places (shopping malls, cinemas, supermarkets), so the malls at that time must be much more deserted than they are now. Now it is different, the city is free from the worries of the coronavirus. People can boldly take off their face masks, go outside to breathe fresh air, and go shopping, so I choose the adjective clean to describe my city. The clean here is different from clean in the traditional use. It not only refers to the cleanness of the surface of the object, the lack of bacteria and viruses, or the appearance of people. It also expresses people’s feelings of relaxation and freedom after getting rid of the troubles of the coronavirus. That is a kind of spiritual clean.
Method of research, documentation, and making of the video
Take photos or videos in a local shopping mall, and then stitch them together
objectives and reflections
I want to verify my assumption that people have come out of the shadow of the covid-19 by observing certain locations in the mall(Entrance, Milk tea shop, cinema)
But in fact, after observing the mall that is about to close, I found that even though many people don’t wear masks on many occasions, they must be wearing masks in the cinema. I think this also reflects people’s attitude mixed between relaxation and seriousness toward prevention and control of the epidemic, even though they know that there is no epidemic around them, they are also determined to wear masks in closed places with crowds. This also reflects the strengthening of people’s awareness of rules after experiencing the epidemic. I believe that even if the epidemic returns, people can cooperate with the government to quickly control the spread of it.

Appreciate your description of a post-pandemic city. I think your understanding of the word “clean” is very important to this video. “Cleanness” is not only a physical existence but also a spiritual one and your focus is on the latter one. Your observation of different places in a city is very detailed and careful.
To improve it and make it more colourful, I think you can use more videos instead of mere photos. I think if you can make the video moves, it will be better! Already a good job, thank you!

The video demonstrates an understanding of concepts and issues relating to a well-identified topic. I appreciate that you attempted to identify the most critical aspects of the theme/place and maintained an acceptable control of techniques and organisation of the form/content and narration. However, none of the narration are clearly presented through photos in your video. What is the spiritual cleanliness are you referring to in the video? The motive of the video is inconclusive because your documentation didn’t verify your hypothesis. A small point to note – COVID-19 is a pandemic not an epidemic.
