[Workshop 1] Q&A with Second Chan – Q33

From Wu Shuang Skyler : I’m interested in how you choose elements to represent Wuhan. Which part of Shenzhen in the movie can be reserved and which part must be reduced and reconstructed entirely by you filmmakers?

It seems that big cities tend to be more identical today…Are there some interesting difference between the two cities? How are those differences related to people’s different life/lifestyles? Thank you!

  1. Second says:

There are certain parts of Shenzhen that looks similar to Wuhan for sure. For example, some local residential neighbourhood and CBD areas, and some hospital exteriors. They looked more or less the same throughout China. We’d try to avoid area of too many Southern trees and sea views etc.

There are lots of interesting difference, for instance, the weather. In fact, Wuhan was quite cold during the locked down period, and heat supplies were everywhere in the city. The dressing code was very different from Shenzhen. Foods are very different too. We have to buy some typical food/snacks from Wuhan to dress up and for acting.
