Of course it will be ideal to meet up with the actors in advance, as it’s important for me to “see” and “feel” them in person. No matter how often I’ve seen these actor appeared in other productions, I tend to avoid relying on other designers’ perception and the characters they created. When I met them, I’d take their body measurement as accurately as possible, observed their body gestures and basically “scanned” their body with my naked eyes! Only with such information that I can create the costume that either fit / enhance / alter their physical form when needed for my designs.
