  • SCRIPT:

iPhone: Good afternoon, laptop.

Laptop: Hey. You seem so tired. When did she sleep last night?

iPhone:4 AM. Well, it has been four months already, I sincerely miss those days that I could rest before 12o o’clock.

Laptop:iii…Look at what she has done in these four months…iii

Other than online lessons, doing assignments, I can’t find anything meaningful…Do you still remember her promises at the beginning of this semester? Read more books? Do more exercise?

iPhone: Don’t even mention that. Her daily routine now is like 12hrs sleeping,5 hrs spent on social media,2 hrs eating, rest of the time…daydreaming. What a mindless and wasted life!

Laptop: Agree…Actually isn’t that the quarantine period is the best time for people to learn more stuff, improve themselves, or even spend more time with their family? Although people feel like being isolated and restricted, they must be able to find a way out. Electronic devices aren’t the only way of entertainment, right?

iPhone: You are right, but sadly, the fact is that people just only spent much more time on electronic devices.Even longer than ever….According to my record, her average time spent on me is 9.5 hours per day this week, increased 6% compared to last week. Do you think we should do anything to help her?

Laptop: Em…actually…I have got an idea to help her have a minor change of the current situation. Listen…

[Tomorrow]

iPhone: Are you sure your plan really works?

Laptop: Sure, my plan is perfect. Let’s just take a rest today and see how’s her day without us.

[Later…]

[Two hours later…]

[Eight hours later…]

Laptop: You see? Without both of us, she still got a fruitful day.

iPhone: How about tomorrow? Do we still need to pretend that we are broken?

Laptop: I…I…I’m not so sure…maybe…maybe…yes?

I appreciate your content, which is very meaningful and thought-provoking that we have really relied on elctronic devices too much especially during this coronavirus break, and indulged ourselves in entertainment without doing actual work. We could have spent our time to do more rewarding and self-improving things. I also love your visual design of the computer screen thing and the robot voice. They engage me into your characters of electronic devices. Excellent idea and very creative!

Focusing on electronic devices is a brilliant idea. The coronavirus is affecting a lot of our lives, the dramatic increase in screen time could be one of them.
I noticed that you used a lot of clips or photos from your smartphone or your PC, I really appreciate it because it helps to narrate and convey your thoughts in a direct yet powerful way.
However, I do think that it could be even better if you could make a video that all the clips, all the photos, all the images are from your screen. Using the screen as your dashboard to present your daily life in this virus crisis as an innovative “documentary” would surely be nice. Imagine how our lives could be presented on a computer screen. While the camera capturing our facial expressions, and the apps capturing our actions, our whole life in this period of time could be shown.
In general, I really like your video because of its creative narrating(robot voice, screen clips…) and thought-provoking subject(addiction under virus crisis).

Appreciate this uplifting narrative about one’s breaking-free story of addiction to electronic devices. It is a simple yet crucial message that is effectively told through creative storyline and editing. The exploration of the topic through the smartphone and laptop offers a refreshing take on this well-established narrative. Overall the content and standpoint that you take are clear, however, could it could be developed further in your video and writing to explain why this is essential. Perhaps through the video, explore how addition to our electronic devices is “ruining our lives,” this is where you could bring in the knowledge gained from research.

In terms of your references, the current bibliography is a good start. There are some creditable news sources that you have included such as Bloomberg and World News Monitor. It would be helpful to see you expand your search net to other forms of publications such as journals, books, etc. to form cross-disciplinary knowledge and understand more about addiction to electronic devices.
