I think it fascinating to learn about the cultural identity of Hong Kong cinema, and how it is influenced by external forces but also depicts the struggles the city faced when it continues to grow. Influences from Hollywood are prominent, but there are also signs that show that there is a rejection of Western values and an embrace of traditional Chinese values. However, it is not as clear cut on which way Hong Kong cinema leans toward, but it is instead a blend of both cultures. This, in my opinion, is the unique culture of Hong Kong the city itself, its culture is inspired by and borrows from both the west and the east. It is also interesting to learn how the development of television as a storytelling medium has impacted cinema. It impacted what kind of stories are told in the cinema. It also helped develop local talent with a unique and fresh point of view, which brought in the new wave of Hong Kong cinema.

I appreciate your intention to derive the discussion of Hong Kong’s unique standing on integrating Eastern and Western cultures from the content of the reading and the tutorial. There’s a logical flow of thoughts presented but it would be better if you can provide examples (e.g. films) of how Hong Kong’s film cultures being an integration of the East and the West. Moreover, more relations to the readings would enhance the relevancy of your response to the materials.
