As a Hong Konger myself I also follow the tradition of tomb-sweeping in these festivals. When I saw the scene where the family had to destroy the grave physically, I felt a bit shaken because in our culture we should never disturb the dead. However, the family’s positive attitude made me reflect on that, although sometimes we cannot control and balance between traditions and the current urbanisation needs, as long as we stay respectful and keep an open mind, I am sure that the Chinese tradition of filial piety can continue to live on and our ancestors will also be pleased.
