Theme: Colorful City（Hong Kong’s special colors – Hong Kong’s Neon lights）
Location: Yau Tsim Mong District, Hong Kong
We can see in Hong Kong there are a lot of eye-catching fluorescent signs（Neon signs） in front of every restaurant. This kind of light plate also often appears in Hong Kong’s ancient movies. Over time, this has become a major feature of Hong Kong. However, these types of signs started to disappear. I wanna record the remaining lights, let people remember that there has been this touch of color, and figure out why the lights gradually disappear. In contrast to the large number of neon lights in documentaries and movies in the past and the small number of neon lights in the streets now, one of the characteristics of Hong Kong is gradually disappearing. The memories of a generation are gradually being replaced by new buildings.
My photography plan is to start with the memory of an old man, to show a scene where neon signs used to be all over the streets of Hong Kong, and then let the old man talk about the meaning of neon signs to him and the whole Hong Kong society, and then connect a paragraph of contemporary people’s views on neon signs and their significance to the whole Hong Kong society. Then I will compare the number of neon signs on the streets now and in the past, and then I will explain what causes the emergence of this phenomenon. Finally, I will explain that with the change of history and the passage of time, many colors representing Hong Kong have gradually disappeared. Hong Kong, which used to be full of lights and wine, has slowly disappeared its different colors.
