In-class exercise—Moving housen reflection

Because Singapore is one of the densest cities in the world, its land resources are very scarce, so in order to make greater use of the land, the family in the documentary has no choice but to relocate his ancestral graves because the land would be used by the government to build houses. This is actually very helpless for chinese people because it is tantamount to disturbing their ancestors and leaving them in peace even after their death.

[Class Exercise]- Moving House Reflection Xu Yihan

This video talks about a family lives in Singapore which comes from Fuzhou needs to move the grave of their parents. Their parents have been buried in the cemetery for more than 20 years. Due to the development of Singapore, they have to do so. The family has a very amicable atmosphere and they buried their died brother with their parents. I guess that’s why this film is titled Moving Home.

Lecture 6: Moving House Reflection

The documentary ‘Moving Houses’ was interesting as it discussed the limited nature in Singapore’s housing system, with “moving, building and resettling” as a normal “way of life”. The film also highlights an extremely tragic situation, where even the dead are forced to relocate due to land scarcity. Chan Hiu To Max (3036137134)

Moving House Reflection

I think that the documentary shows a conflict between development and the traditional culture. The development of the Singaporean government forced the people who are dead to move. Although the redevelopment projects seem to benefit the citizens, it still disturbs the dead people who buried there. Urbanisation may cause the tradition to decline and could be loss.
