When I saw the title, I immediately thought of the movie – The Shawshank Redemption. The scene where the main character finally breaks out of prison and stands in the rain matches the pouring rain scene described in that text. Four hours earlier, he had just accomplished the most important event in his life; he had regained his freedom. Compared to freedom, the rain is more like it is falling for him, and this rain is nothing to him anymore.

I thought of the protagonist being in a futuristic or cyberpunk era where they are facing difficulties in acclimating to this new environment where a lot of things are digitized and robotic. The rain seems to “wash away” the perfection of the city at nighttime as the neon lights look like they’re bleeding under the reflection of the water.
This is the first picture I chose because I think it looks like this person is taking the bus alone and just looking outside of the window and being really sad about life. Overwhelmed and hopeless. 2. Similar vibe too in this picture. Just alone and no one is around.
I chose this photo to express the feeling. The see-saw represents the unstable feeling and situation of the character. By filming the sunrise, it could hint the character had been sitting for a night in the playground.
The man standing in the rain alone. Nobody knows what happened, but everyone could feel his sadness. His body stands straight in the rainy night. However, his mind was already flushed away by the cold water.
I’m deeply obsessed by the beautiful shots and comfortable narrative rhythm. And my questions all have been answered by director Chen, especially the casting one.
I believe there is some influence in Cambodia local TV and film (which I am not familiar with unfortunately). May you introduce what elements or stylistic choices of those influence you? Thanks
I noticed that there are many scenes between the protagonists and the sceneries in Cambodia, in what extend does the surrounding influences the topic of genocide? and why do u choose love story to show the topic ?
