[Field-Homework 1] Hermitage

A wide-angle shot of a study taken at dusk.

Zoom in on a UHU glue-filled medical syringe pinned into foam.

Focus shot on pens lying on a few medical masks.

Up-to-standard medical masks have become scarce and hard to come by. By the convenient accompaniment of architecture human models lying down, a tone of despair may be hinted with the addition of the blue-toned filter. The haphazard pile of pens indicate that the stationery has been in use for a long time, perhaps even weeks of avoiding going out, shown in detail through the technique. This shows the effect of the health crisis on the livelihood – upheaval of normal daily functions and social interactions. An isolating experience accented by the yearning for the outside held back by fears.

Cropped view of a contemplation.

Bird’s eye view of the workspace.

Worm’s eye view of the workspace.

First person view of the workspace in use.

Image of workspace taken at a skewed angle.

Two-point perspective view of the workspace and its surrounding environment.

Framed view of the outside environment taken from inside a laptop stand.

Chiaroscuro of a small amethyst cluster, the crystal being believed to have healing properties by some.

Seriality of the view, from a mental cage, of an outside world settling down for rest.

  1. Eunice says:

A well-curated and visually compelling series of photographs conveying working at home during the virus crisis. The dusk color tones and lighting controls reveal that you are self-conscious in the construction of a visual narrative that is on the one hand autobiographical and on the other, a reflection of the present shared urban experience. Your title too sets that up well.
Framed view – The choice of viewing the outside through the laptop stand is clever and intriguing at the same time – clever in that it stays close to the theme of the “hermit” working at home looking towards the exterior environment through enclosures i.e. frame in a frame.
In your text description for the Focus short, you demonstrate a strong consideration of cinematic consideration and the attention to detail. You show an understanding and ability to communicate meanings visually.
