[Field-Homework 1] Suppression: inside my bedroom

Suppression: inside my bedroom

Space: Bedroom
Camera Location: From interior to exterior

1. Wide Angle: an establishing shot to show the environment of my home, where nature is just in front of me.

2. Zoom: The “imprisonment” only saddens one’s emotion.

3. Focus: seeing the world through this digital interface and numbers only makes one even more anxious.

4. Crop: Stepping out of the house, just like the fish leaving from the tank to the land.

5.Bird’s eye: When daily life is enclosed by the concrete walls, I clutched to also realise my minds are also enclosed by “home”.

6. Worm’s eye: Cover yourself with the blanket, so that time will pass quicker and you will fall asleep.

7. First person view: touching the leaves inside this built environment when the trees are right in front of me.

8. Skewed angle: what happened to the sky, the mountains, the neighbourhood…? I want to know.

9. Perspective: Trying to put myself to sleep in the daytime.

10. View frame: through the corners of the cabinet, this is exactly how I deal with the suppression.

11. Contrast: Can I step out of this dim interior and move into the bright exterior?

12. Seriality

Description:
Longing to leave my room, I don’t belong to this space, just like the flowers. This series of images conveys such message through shallow depth of field, focusing on the flowers , then the trees. It creates progressions, drawing out the similarity of both subjects as plants. Yet, at the end of the day, the fear of virus contagion does still suppresses my wish. I am still inside this space enclosed with concrete.

  1. Eunice says:

Visuals and texts demonstrate a thorough understanding of and constructive engagement with, the course material and contents.
Photographs are technically well-considered and convey a clear sense of self-consciousness about your immediate environment. Though each photograph is independently responding to the task, overall, they present a clear narrative of longing.
    5. BIrd’s eye view stands out as a strong individual image in terms of your creative way of constructing the perspective and working with the limitations of the bedroom. At the same time it works well to enhance the collection of images.
You have conveyed a dynamic relationship between the window frame, yourself as subject and the space. Overall, what you have presented is suppression can be a creative impetus!
