THE UNIVERSITY OF MY ROOM – Proudly Founded November 2019
(Wide-angle)
Welcome to MRU! Here is a brief impression of our school.
(Zoom)
Like other schools in Hong Kong right now, we cannot provide any standard classrooms and teaching facilities.
(Focus)
On the bright side, students will be utilizing their own local resources more frequently… How efficient!
(Crop)
Students engage in a wide-range of activities – from drawing, sketching, illustration and more.
(Bird’s eye/Aerial)
Students are trained to be responsible of their personal workspace’s hygeine. Look at this student, he is in a pile of junk. How pathetic!
(Worm’s eye)
Unlike the aforementioned example, most of our students are hardworking. It’s normal for a student to use up almost the whole pencil within just a month.
(First person view, from this student’s “neighbour”)
Without peer interference, students could then be more focused on their own learning.
(Skewed angle)
A checklist of our students’ work.
(Perspective)
All the hangers for outdoor clothes are empty. Our students must be very hardworking!
(View frame)
An impression (only) of outdoor experience for our students… What a pleasant view!
(Chiaroscuro / Contrast, see footnote for description)
[Deleted dialogue: Hey, why does this photo show the students’ underlying desires… Please remove this shot from the blog!]
(Seriality)
A few more snapshots of our students’ fruitful university life!
[A Message from the Principal to the Blog Author – Regarding the Chiaroscuro Shot: Despite the sufficient exposure to the study area which highlights our education’s dominance in students’ lives, it is a REALLY POOR SHOT. Firstly, why did you tune down the saturation of the study area? It might imply that our work-alone learning would be boring to students if carried out in the long term. Besides, the great coverage of hiking material might hint our students’ urge to go off-campus. As we must not show the unhealthy socio-psychological state of our students, please take this propaganda down ASAP.]

[A Message from another member of the university] – appreciate your “poor shot” which over-exposes the recreational aspects and underexposes the work aspects in your room. Hiking is a great sport not only for physical and mental exercise but also for visual training where you can find panoramic and aerial views that are often used for urban establishing shots, and depending on where you hike, you can find inspiring subjects for zooming in, to focus on , to crop and train your eyes to construct serial views of the journey, or of specific subjects and/or backgrounds, etc. (Great way to combine work and play. Having said that, better turn on your workstation now and show the principal you are indeed working hard.)]
*Innovative thinking on the subject matter in your photographs. Each is thoughtful and makes a clear point that adds to the overall point you are making, which you sums up in your title (very clever!) Particularly striking are these:
Skewed – clever choice of subject matter
Perspective – hangers give a visual trick/twist to the 1-point perspective
View frame – also a very effective chiaroscuro effect but I can see why you decide to use it simply for view frame instead of chiaroscuro because of the point you intend to make with the the latter
Seriality – smart use of smart tools – survival kit to ace the semester?
Great job overall!
