Field Trip 1: Rooftops in North Point

Wide-angle

The photo managed to capture the harbor under the shady sky.

Lager angle will actually have more contains — includes the skyscrapers in the lest and some boats in the right. The giant screens on the far shore create bright spots in the view and make the whole picture become vivid. The feel of isolation is mentioned in the video clip provided before the field trip. Indeed, rooftops could provide the directors with a broader view to capture. The large wide-angle background and the actor together conduct a sense of isolation through comparison and reflection. In the movie Infernal Affairs (2002), the undercover officer always chooses the rooftop to meet his partner, which shows the feelings of loneliness and heroism. Moreover, the wide-angle fits spectators’ aesthetic taste, as the photographic tactic embeds a broader meaning into the picture.

Zoom

The photo zooms up and records the viewer’s reflection in the opposite building’s glass curtain。

Focus

I focused on a crane to reflect the feeling of vertical and the height of the building.

Crop

In the photo, the building is on the dark side and being “cropped”, which becomes less important in the whole view. The colorful sky and the bright cloud is being emphasized.

Bird’s eye/ariel

I shoot the tram’s railway from the top of the building and expect to create the bird’s eye view. the white roof of the tram is impressive as it creates contrast against the dark road.

Worm’s eye

This is the staircase of Qiaoguan mansion. The camera is placed close to the ground and shows the circulation of the stairs.

First person view

It shows the view of a ladder on the outside of a block room above the roof. The spectator can obtain the same view when they try to climb the ladder.

Skewed angle

The edge of the buildings jointly creates the skewed angle in the photo. The sky is also cut into an irregular shape.

Perspective

The photo shows the view of Queen Street. The buildings on the two sides of the street create a deep precipice.

View frame

It shows the deep courtyard of Qiaoguan mansion. The courtyard is fairly impressive as the mansion is 27 floors high and it is almost invisible of the bottom of the courtyard.

Seriality

The theme of the photos series is the equipment on the rooftops. Those rust metal antennas are in dark color, which fit into the dark sky.

Chiaroscuro/Contrast

The bright warm street and the dark cold brick buildings conduct a contrast between light and dark.
