Reading Response: Barthes, R. and Benjamin, W.

To begin with the response after reading the chapter written by Ronald Barthes, I did not think about the functions and effects that theaters brought to me before. Specifically speaking, the vibe, darkness, size of the screen, audio and visual technologies all play essential role in making people more concentrated and enjoyed on the film. According to Ronald, darkness represents a “twilight reverie” that results in cinematic trance and the loss of worldliness. When I stepped into the cinema and theaters, the darkness will attract all my attentions on the screen. Additionally, turning to the passage written by Walter Benjamin, which provides me with more views about the work of art of its technological reproducibility. Benjamin holds the view that traditional art pieces contain several key ideas, such as inventiveness and distinctive worth, that set them apart from those produced using technology. I agree with that view because some central values of art are constructed by time and history, which cannot replace by technology. However, we should also admit that technology plays an essential role in nowadays’ huge development of arts and films. Keep on developing and applying technologies will also be essential.

You are able to capture some of the key ideas introduced, such as how the interior environment helps the audience to immerse themselves in the films. However, your language usage hinders your expression. It is hard to comprehend some of your points of view. It will be great if your language expression is polished so that you can express your ideas accurately.
