Before reading this article, there were few terms that I was unaware of their differences. Understanding exact meanings and differences between them, it made me think and reflect upon movies that I know and Re-examine the use of these terms as a tool.
Place and space. I used to think that these two terms have same meaning, just used at different context. However, the article explains that place is an area with fixed objects and space is area with experience (movement). For example, a city square with buildings is a place but once people experience this place, it becomes a space.
Map and tour. A map is description of specific places and tour is as you connect each point to walk you through the path.
Knowing these differences, it was very interesting to see how they achieve different effects in movies.

You have made an attempt to summarise the definitions of “place”, “space”, “map”, and “tour”. It was great that you suggested to direct the discussion to tools – the means used in film-making and architecture. However, it was not discussed in any way. What is your reflection of their effects in movies? As it is a reading response, this is the most important part which was left undeveloped. Your summary on “place” and “space” is clear but you could have further elaborated on “map” and “tour”, essentially the relationship between “places” and that between bodily movements and “places” respectively. You may wish to think about what filming techniques or types of architectural drawings are utilised to represent those ideas. It would also greatly benefit if you can weave in your understanding of the text to support your reflection.
