Reading Response: Pamela Robertson Wojcik

I’m largely impressed by an element of the apartment plots that the author discussed in the reading material, which refers to the temporality of the apartment. I do think that every single character’s action will lead the film to various outcomes. For example, there is a plot that audiences may be familiar with in several cop films set in Hong Kong. Usually, in the climax of the films, the mate of the protagonist will decide to move out, because she can no longer stand the protagonist’s precarious living conditions. This action always marks the turning point of the movie and trigger the main character’s ambition. Then, he will possibly deal with the huge task successfully to prove himself that he can provide the girl a secure life. The satisfactory outcome always sublimates the theme of the movie. To conclude, the action of moving out is a tool to move the plot forward and sometimes acts as a turning point of the whole.

I appreciate how you brought in an example to discuss how the apartment is often important to the film’s plot and marks time. It will be helpful if you can provide a few specific examples of films which you are referring to.
