Reading Response: Roland Barthes

Roland Barthes’s “The Rustle of Language” stirred up my curiosity and interest after I read it. The most reflective part I found is the difference between watching movies in the cinema and watching movie at home. From my personal experience, these two are really unique experience. Although they both have their good and bad, I think they are both essential for a movie lover. In the reading, Barthes further explained the characteristics and difference of these two kinds of movie-watching experience. There is a point mentioned in the reading by Barthes that I can not agree. It is about the darkness inside the cinema which is unique from the the darkness at home. I think the darkness in the cinema offers the audience a special kind of inclusiveness which makes the audience can be more engaged in the films. Also, I can feel the specialness of cinema every time we go to cinema. For example, we may go to different cinema every time and we will sit in different seats even we visit the same cinema.
