Little Cheung was released in 1999, telling a story of a streetwise 9-year-old boy. The story happened in 1997, the year when Hong Kong was returned to China. Political metaphor is one of the most important aspects in the movie. The geographical location, architecture and character all represent different meanings. For example, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), which was completed in 1997, signifies the end of British colonial rule, and the reunification with China.
