Different places will have different attitudes to deal with the covid-19 epidemic. Mainland China chose to both prevent foreign imports and rebound in local, in order to reach dynamic zero. For me, a student who back from Hong Kong to the mainland when the epidemic in Hong Kong was serious, choose to use this video to show the relationship between people and architecture during the epidemic.
I choose the Changfeng business district as a filming location for three reasons. First, this is the place where I always go when I live in Taiyuan,
and I know it well enough. Second, it is one of the prosperous places in Taiyuan, and I have mentioned the reasons in the video. Showing the change under epidemic will be expressive. Third, Taiyuan experienced an epidemic when I was back, so choosing a place that I’m familiar with could help me to know the changes clearly.
To let the audience know the changes clearly, I first introduce the situation people were facing, and then introduce this place, and described the changes during the epidemic.
The introduction of the assignment asked us about the pandemic’s impacts on the city. This is very much in line with the current situation: the city is under epidemic now, and I am familiar with my city and know what it liked in the past. This is how I came up with this idea. In the first paragraph, I showed the audience about the circumstance by giving them the scene of doing nucleic acid tests and ended the introduction during this time.
Then I introduce the situation in the business district by showing people the form both through lines and photos, in order to let the later narration more convenient. Then I started explaining about the changes, by telling the audience about the situation when the city is under epidemic and the circumstance when the city reach dynamic zero. I only shot the scenes that could show the changes, like the change in entrances of the Mixc, and the QR code in front of the door then showed and explained to them when my text mentioned them.
During all the shootings, I take myself as the person who experienced the whole event, and I think this is a good way to let audiences be personally on the scene, such as doing the nucleic acid tests with other citizens, and showing people stood in lines waiting, medical workers who keep maintaining order, lines which stick on the ground to reduce social contacts, and I also showed my proof of complete the test. Also, for this reason, I do not ban the ambient sounds in the videos, since I think these sounds will make the video more authentic. When I introduce the changes, I make the scenes by part and show the audience the impact of policies when the city is under epidemic, and the ’recovery’ when it has been well-controlled.
Directing and shooting a video like this really give me a sense of achievement, and I have some new opinions and thoughts of this epidemic which lasts for more than two years. When I’m making this film, I have an experience in this place, and have some new thoughts about the epidemic. I felt sureness When I knew there are no covid-19 cases in my district, and I was happy to live in a safe area.Just like I mentioned in my video: Epidemic will definitely have impact on people’s social life, especially under strict prevention and control measures. As a resident of a city, I could understand the government’s concern, and I am also glad to hear that the epidemic was controlled in a short period of time. Hope the covid-19 epidemic could end soon.

I appreciate your effort of walking a lot and visit lots of places to make this film and your word description is also carefully wrote! However, I observed that there are different levels of qualities of filming included, i am curious if they were all taken by you own or maybe you need to cite them carefully. It could be better of all the films were presented in landscape format!
I think the video is very comprehensive as you used different methods to introduce the layout, such as a map and various districts’ clips, which gave me a clear understanding of it. Moreover, you also used different clips to represent the other scenes before and after the pandemic so that I could feel the difference in social life during the epidemic. Finally, I suggest that the subtitles in the video sometimes are not different from the narrator. Therefore, it may be better for audiences if you can re-edit the subtitles.
Firstly, I would like to remind you that you have to title your piece as (Keyword) City to shape your research perspective. Right now it seems that you are giving a comprehensive review of covid’s impact on your city instead of focusing on a certain aspect and a certain site. You have mentioned that you have new reflections on the pandemic after making the video but you did not elaborate on that. Overall, the research is not specific enough. You are also reminded to properly cite all the sources you have used.
