[Workshop 1] Q&A with Second Chan – Q19

From LIN Wei Alex : I really appreciate the effort that the whole filming group paid in order to recreate the city and the scenes. It is definitely a tough task to manufacture every components and elements by yourself. While the use of post effect seems to be easier and cost less time, I would like to know that for a specific component, what is the key that drives you to make the decision to recreate it in reality or using post effect?

  1. Second says:

The key point is which one looked more real. The audiences tend to believe that using CGI is the easier way but we filmmakers don’t think that way. In fact, manufacture and setting up real Wuhan street signs and railings on the street is much easier than using CGI in the post, because that’d be very costly and looked fake (even if building 3-d model)

In some cases we could not do it real then we’d leave that to the post. For example, the giant signage (name) on the top of the highway exit building.
