When designing costumes for a character, we must consider if the costumes help the actor to get into their role. One of the reason I picked school uniform as the boy’s main costume is because it would helped this young actor (he was 8 years old) relate to his own identity – a school boy! Another reason I don’t want to dress him in anything that would distracted his already very unique appearance, I want the costume to be generic, no hidden message nor meaning. Audiences would acknowledged it and immediately moving on to focus on this character.

Come to think of it, the choice of using school uniform probably come from my childhood memory… many kids back then living in a housing estate simply loved to wear their uniform hours after school, hanging out in the playground with their friends until their parents summoned them home for dinner!
