[Field-Homework 3] The Spot-like City

The spot-like city Youtube link: https://youtu.be/oDlJnLBoJBE Director: Zhang Anni 3036128858 We choose market as the subject of our video and we shoot how market works in a whole day. During the filming, it can be noticed that the market is usually built alongside municipal buildings and sports stadiums. This makes the vicinity of the municipal building a small centre of the area. As a result, the city of Hong Kong has a spot-like distribution of aggregation. By researching the relevant information, this setting is for a reason. In ancient times, people usually lived near towns in order to live and

Reading response2 : In Search of the Ghostly in Context

“Where class is discussed, it is mainly to critique the plight of middle-class people. However, Chan’s focus on socially marginalized classes has attracted some critics’ attention.” —-In Search of the Ghostly in Context This paragraph emphasizes the significance of exploring the intersection between urban space and social marginality in Hong Kong films, especially those that focus on the experiences of the socially marginalized classes. The author notices that while middle-class issues have been the primary focus of critical discourses on Hong Kong films, Chan’s films stand out for their exploration of the experiences of those who have been marginalized within

Workshop3

I got the inspiration from Dune 2. It’s not relevant to my final video essay, but I like the way how Dune depicts future. I put the na-baron Feyd Rautha here along with the Harkonnen army. I also put the black moon of Harkonnen and the blue eye of Freman as well, as they are kind of symbol of their own planet. I had imagined to put some texture of sand and the shining spice in it, but it takes time. Maybe I’ll try late after. And this is my story board, which is what I actually wanna shoot for

Moving house reflection

The moving of the family’s grave can be seen as a clash between urbanization and tradition. Nobody wants to disturb the rest souls of our families. However, there’s no other choice. Fortunately, the family in the video is optimistic enough. They just took it as a reunite with their grandparents. I think that’s the power of humans when facing a clash. They use their own way to receive and bridge the gap of two eras.

This is Belinda, and next to me, we have Annie.    The Urban Renewal Authority has recently proposed to demolish and redevelop the Man Wah Sun Chuen, which is located in Jordan. The artefact that will vanish is the old model of the rubbish bin located in the Man Wah Sun Chuen.    Rubbish bins in Hong Kong have always had a familiar look. One rectangular opening on each side and an ashtray on top. However, I have several reasons to believe that this familiar sight is about

The passage shows a particular aspect of the proceed of modernization. Instead of focusing on skyscrapers and modern vehicles, some films spotlight female figures. What differs from the previous movies is that women are given more roles than housewives and mothers. For example, in the film black rose, women are seen as thieves who steal for the rich to help the deprived. Through the silhouette of a woman, the film shows the rise of the middle class in the city. Another example is the increasing entertainment activities women have. The typical figure is the factory woman workers. They are independent
