In Katarzyna Ancuta’s Asian Ghosts and the City, Ancuta incorporated a recurring motif of ghosts to signify the lack of raw communal exchanges emphasized in modern day architecture, whereby the intangible forces of political and economic means further reinforced urban isolation. (Workshop 3) Mood board: The vanishing colours of the central pier – Larissa Lai

I plan to showcase the juxtaposition of the current central pier and the traditional central pier to demonstrate the architectural advancement whilst ironically, presenting its potential risks of vanishing. To accentuate this, I decided to implement a grey, black, white and blue colour scheme in representing themes of nostalgia and novelty.

Reading response 1 – Leaving the Movie Theatre by Robert Barthes

In Ronald Barthes’s Leaving the Movie Theatre, he argues that the hypnosis in a holistic movie theatre experience is achieved through the synergy between the twilight repertoire and the image repertoire.
