[Field Homework 3] The Long Way Home

This documentary records the long routine of avoiding virus to be brought home. Starting from the moment one steps into the building, one becomes fully aware not to bring any virus home. The lengthy procedure is basically disinfecting everything as much as possible and avoiding contact. The split-screen shows a comparison between the two routines of arriving home before and during the pandemic outbreak. The added cleansing procedures in the short arrival finally allows one to sit comfortably on the sofa.     References: De Certeau, M. (1984). Spatial Stories. [Field-Homework 3] The Invisible

Synopsis: Since the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in the city on January 24th, changes of the city have been enormous, scattering all over different places. The unfamiliar tranquility in the bustling urban space seems to be unreal, though more than enough evidence proves a cheerless city. The documentary is going to present the journey of a person who lives in Taike Garden and heads to an area where citizens usually spend their leisure time doing sports and playing. People gradually realize that a bustling town with noise and traffic jam is how a city’s energy, excitement and liveliness are

[Field-Homework 3] HONGKONGUNDER-COVID-1920

Coronavirus, an uninvited guest, has changed our daily life in the past two months. We spent most of the time in our home. Having online lectures, watching TV programmes and observing the pedestrian with masks become part of our daily life. Besides, the cityscape of Hong Kong changed under the hygiene crisis. MTR stations underground are filled with passengers wearing masks while most of the street stores were closed under the poor economic atmosphere. The escalator system packed with crowds commuting in Mid-levels of Central, however, is less busy than usual working days. Under the trend of home-office, just

[Field-Homework 3] The Death of Urban Walkers

Storyboard: https://app.conceptboard.com/board/4pix-dt7t-q66z-aysg-gci2 Synopsis: The corona virus has escalated fear and panic within the community. Many of those who are physically and mentally disabled suffer from trauma when they go beyond their homes. Ever since the outbreak of the virus, the romance of urban walkers and the conviviality of interactions have slowly disappeared from our vision, perhaps we have come to the “death of urban walkers”. Adding on from the idea of melancholy in fieldwork 2, my documentary looks at an imaginary protagonist who have suffered from anxiety and how he faces the fear of crowdedness and monotony of masked individuals

[Field-Homework 3] My Spatial Story for Masks

Synopsis: Architecture is the protection and shelter for citizens. If an architect is told to design buildings to cope with the environmental crisis, will architecture guard me against the coronavirus? Notice I am going out every day during the peak of the crisis, my trajectories from my place, the apartment plot, to spaces like transportation infrastructures and populous streets, do not seem to protect me from the coronavirus. These structures are not even more protective than the masks. This video tells my trajectory story between places and spaces, portraying how I take this extra step to get masks in my

[Field-Homework 3] 2020: A Take-out Odyssey

He Yifu This documentary is inspired by the classic sci-fi movie, 2001: A Space Odyssey. The theme music — “Also Sprach Zarathustra” works really well for this documentary. It started low and depressed, just like the city under the coronavirus crisis, yet as it goes, it gradually became excited and indignant, just like the city’s renaissance. Yet the renaissance takes people’s effort to take place, and this documentary would focus on one kind of people, the take-out food deliverymen. We follow them as they travel through the city to deliver the food, the city, as well as the people, the
