[Field-Homework 2] Disconnected Connections

  1. What used to be the entrance to the walkway is now deserted without people.

2. Different perspectives and attitudes towards the crisis.

3. A pathway that used to be filled with people becomes empty in response to the crisis.

4. Juxtaposition between the ambulance quickly responding to a crisis and the people walking slowly with vigilance.

5. The walkway, filled with domestic helpers on Sunday is now deserted with only one left, alone.

Through the use of a long shot, this video image conveys the perception of the crisis to the public eye. The bridge used to be a location where domestic helpers would gather and enjoy their holiday together. Now, the isolation of the domestic helper sat the end of the bridge shows the loneliness and results of the crisis to herself and her friends, while on a macro scale, shows people’s fear of going outside.

  1. Annie Lye says:

The subject matter in your videos is presented relatively clear – the walkway system found in HK. In terms of camera technique, the videos overall are strikingly similar, mostly filmed at eye level and perspectival. In particular, video 2+ 3 are both panning shots. There could be more variation with these videos in terms of the camera angle. Experiment, have fun!

What is your response to the question of urban infrastructure? How do you see the walkway system as an urban infrastructure? If so, do articulate this in your text description or in the way your video presents it. Also, where in Hong Kong were these videos shot?
