Field Trip 3: Lippo Centre

Lippo Centre never fails to distinguish itself from other skyscrapers in the heart of Hong Kong, with its unique and futuristic appearance. In the mood board, I basically picked out some key features of the architecture itself, which makes it one step closer to the future in the Cyberpunk movie. First one is the so-called “Koala Tree” facade, which seems brutal yet still delicate with a super reflective glass curtain facade – it’s almost like a giant machine made out of glass. Second one is about its ground supporting structure. The exposed cluster of gigantic and tall columns comes in a lofty scale, which dramatically creates a sense of distance from people’s daily life and adds to its futuristic feature. Third one is about the elevated pedestrian system, where the ground floor is left to vehicles and not so welcoming for pedestrians. Also the ground traffic system is complicated with intersected bridges and roads. This kind of traffic system is often seen in futuristic works, as a way to show the change high-technology could make to the urbanscape. Besides I picked some colours from my filtered photos in the board(which are in a similar language with scenes of Ghost in the Shell), to show how the colours significantly influence our perception of the urbanscape. Additionally, I searched some lease advertisements of Lippo Centre, whose high leasing prices interestingly reflected its favour from the market and indicated its potential to be the heart of a giant Cyborg company in the movie.
