[READING RESPONSE: PAMELA WOJCIK]

“Apartment is a modern urban architecture form that can contain people with various identities together into a dense space. Therefore it also is a stage to represent the new types of social relationships in the present-day. People moving in and out, the social relationship is constantly changing (transience) in the modern world. As people’s private life intrigue, it developed interesting concepts of voyeurism and eavesdropping in the modern world, where the boundary of private and public become vague. One can understand this as a new form of “connection” in modern space, where people meet each other without “meeting” them.

Furthermore, the sense of connectivity is also shown in the genre of apartment, it is a genre that can coexist with many other traditional genres (like noir, thrillers and etc.,  which make us rethink the movie genre as a spatial form and consider how it is achieved through framing and tracking shots. Additionally, it makes us review the hidden themes and ideology of modernity found in everyday life.

This has reminded us about how film shapes our experience, worldview, and opportunity.
